Greetings on another wonderful summer day. This blog will focus on the many stellar world-renown speakers who have blessed Harmony Hill with presentations here: Joan Borysenko, Lynne Twist, Deanna Minich, Larry Dossey, and Mark Nepo

As mentioned in blog #6 – one of my favorite authors is Joan Borysenko Ph.D., a Harvard-trained medical scientist, licensed psychologist, and spiritual educator. Joan is a New York Times bestselling author of thirteen books and is a blogger.  Her book Fire in the Soul touched me deeply in the ’90s and  Pocketful of Miracles has been a daily read and grounding for me for more than two decades.  Quote from the back of the book:  “As the season change so do our lives” Each day has a seed thought followed by a prayer practice. I dreamed for years that we would find a way to bring Joan to HH…then amazingly thanks to Marilyn Loy Every(Wisdom Walk Production) she brought  Joan for an “Authoring Your Life” workshop in 2013 which of course I immediately signed up to attend. Joan has led many writing workshops since then, all very inspiring.

Joan quote: “We emerge into the light not by denying our pain, but by walking through it.”

Lynn Twist

Lynne Twist is a co-founder of The Pachamama Alliance and founder of The Soul of Money Institute. She has dedicated herself to alleviating poverty and hunger and supporting social justice and environmental sustainability. Her book: The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life, was incredibly helpful in our start-up days. Lynne has been to HH several times for powerful presentations. Additionally, she mentored us with strategies and outreach for our 2008 capital campaign which were enormous gifts.

Lynne quote: “Money is like water. It can be a conduit for commitment, a currency of love. Money moving in the direction of our highest commitments nourishes our world and ourselves. What you appreciate appreciates. When you make a difference with what you have, it expands. Collaboration creates prosperity. True abundance flows from enough; never from more. Money carries our intention. If we use it with integrity, then it carries integrity forward. “

Deanna Minich, Ph.D. featured in blog #11, is an internationally-recognized lifestyle, nutrition and functional medicine expert, creative visionary, and author of six books. HH was blessed for years with Deanna’s presentations to our Cancer retreat attendees. One of her books: The Rainbow Diet “is a colorful intelligent and intuitive system for putting together your eating and living in a holistic way that brings you vitality, and energy.” She is offering a 14-week intro to the Rainbow diet at her Gig Harbor Metagenic clinic which I am currently attending and loving it. Deanna will be presenting a workshop here Sept 6-8: Mystery of the Mind Retreat 2019: “ Treat your whole self to some intuitive wisdom, peace of mind, and centered calmness.”

Deanna quote:  “…if we really want the biggest shift possible, we need to look at the whole context of our lives. It’s not just the foods that we eat, but it’s how we think about the foods that we’re eating.”

Larry Dossey, MD

Larry Dossey, MD  is a physician and author of 12 books who propounds the importance of healing of prayer, spirituality, and other non-physical factors. Bringing the experience of a practicing internist and the soul of a poet to the discourse, Dr. Dossey offers panoramic insight into the nature and the future of medicine. Larry and his wife Barbara Dossey are working to reshape the very ground of medicine and healthcare. (Barbie and the Integrative Nurse Coach Association ( INCA) programs have been offered here for years—a future blog will feature Barbie, a wonderful People to People trip to China I attended with her and INCA.)  In One Mind, New York Times best-selling author Larry Dossey proposes an inspiring view of consciousness that may reshape our destiny. Dossey’s premise is that all individual minds are part of an infinite, collective dimension of consciousness he calls the One Mind. The state –which we can all access-explains phenomena as diverse as epiphanies, creative breakthroughs, premonitions of danger or disaster, near-death experiences, and remote healing. In 2016 Dr. Dossey gave a fascinating presentation at HH: “Is the Soul Obsolete?  Implications of a Common Consciousness for Immortality and Creativity

Larry quote:  “I used to believe that we must choose between science and reason on one hand, and spirituality on the other, in how we lead our lives. Now I consider this a false choice. We can recover the sense of sacredness, not just in science, but perhaps in every area of life” Picture Larry  One Mind

Mark Nepo, Ph.D. is a poet and spiritual adviser has taught in the fields of poetry and spirituality for over 30 years.  In his 30s he was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma, a struggle which helped to form his philosophy of experiencing life fully while staying in relationship to an unknowable future. He has published 19 books and recorded 14 audio projects. He was drawn to this form because as a poet, he was “longing for a manner of expression that could be as useful as a spoon, and as a cancer survivor, daybooks have become inner food”. In 2010 Oprah Winfrey chose Nepos’s  Book of Awakening as one of her Ultimate Favorite Things for her farewell season, launching it to the #1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list. Nepo has appeared several times with Oprah Winfrey on her Super Soul Sunday program on OWN TV and was named to Oprah’s SuperSoul100 list of visionaries and influential leaders. As a cancer survivor, Mark devotes his writing and teaching to the journey of inner transformation and the life of relationship. Mark’s work is widely accessible and used in spiritual retreats, healing and medical communities, and more. His work has been translated into 20 languages, and he continues to offer readings, lectures, and retreats.

Harmony Hill has been honored by several Mark Nepo workshops held here. This Oct.25-27  Harmony Hill brings you an intimate opportunity to take a first look at Mark Nepos’s upcoming book, with the author himself. Drinking from the River of Light: The Life of Expression

Meaningful art, enduring art—and the transformative process it awakens—keeps us alive,” writes Mark Nepo. With Drinking from the River of Light, this poet and philosopher leads audiences on a journey to discover just how art and creative expression can bring our deepest truths to bear in the world. This three-day retreat will feature over 10 hours of sessions with Mark, opportunities for meditation and relaxation. See www.harmonyhill.org to sign up, as it will be filling fast!

Mark Quotes: “poetry is the unexpected utterance of the soul.”  “…there are no wrong turns, only unexpected paths.”

“Thank you so much. This retreat was amazing and there are so many things I learned that are going to affect my life for the better.”

“Words cannot begin to explain my gratitude to the people who made it possible. My grief was such a burden and when I left, my soul was changed so I could come back to living again. I love them all.”
