Yippee for Green Tea!

Shortly after receiving my cancer diagnosis, I enlisted the help of a naturopath oncologist to help me do it right. I knew that I needed to change the biome in my body to one where cancer could not thrive.
Nearly everything I read said, drink green tea. It’s good for you, it’s packed with anti-oxidants, boosts metabolism and improves immunity. It is good for mental function with about half the caffeine.
Although, I never particularly cared for the taste of green tea, I was willing to try anything and everything that would help me heal.
So my usual morning routine now includes a cup of hot lemon water followed by a hearty cup of Matcha.
Why Choose Green Tea?
Green tea is full of anti-oxidants and has powerful anti-cancer phytonutrients such as catechins that are believed to prevent cell damage. Not only that, but green tea is known to boost mental sharpness and even rumored to prevent diabetes and heart disease!
Where does Green Tea and Matcha come from?
Green tea originated in China but is now grown throughout Asia and is even grown in the U.S. in Hawaii. Almost all tea grown in Japan is green tea.
The name Matcha comes from the Japanese language: Ma= ground and Cha = tea
Matcha is a powder made from grinding up tencha tea leaves from the plant Camellia sinensis that all tea is derived from. By consuming the powder, you’re consuming the entire tea leaf that is hardly processed so you get all the nutrients!
Where do you get it?
Available at any health food store, look for 100% certified organic. Sei Mee tea from Japan is my favorite brand. It is best to drink Matcha plain; if you use a nut milk creamer, be sure to stir up the green tea that will float to the bottom of your cup! Please beware of matcha lattes and pre-made mixers available at coffee shops that are often packed with sugar.
How to prepare Matcha:
- Boil water
- Add 1 tsp of Matcha powder
- Use whisk or milk frother to mix and create a nice foam on top
How to prepare Summer Matcha Mixer
This is my go-to alternative to sugary blended iced coffee drinks.
Recipe:
Although I prefer a Vitamix, any household blender will suffice.
In the blender, combine:
1 cup matcha tea
1 cup of your favorite nut milk (I like to use coconut milk or almond milk)
1 cup ice
Blend for 30 seconds for a refreshing summer treat
