Harmony Hill is offering two programs in 2010 for those who are caregivers of those with cancer. These programs are designed to help cancer caregivers cope with the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges of caring for a loved one with cancer. This program and all other cancer related programs at Harmony Hill are offered FREE to participants.

The two programs are:

Caring for the Caregiver - a one-day program
Cancer Caregiver's Retreat - a weekend retreat

All retreats are held at Harmony Hill's twelve-acre facility on beautiful Hood Canal in western Washington state. Participants are treated to delicious whole-foods meals, and opportunities for relaxation and renewal in a tranquil retreat environment of gardens, nature trails, and spectacular mountain and water views.

Harmony Hill is a place to retreat from the stresses of daily life and have time to focus on yourself. For many it is a chance to be nurtured, in body, mind, and spirit, in a peaceful and comforting environment. For others it is an opportunity to explore complimentary techniques that can be taken home as a toolkit for their continued journey.

Harmony Hill cancer programs are designed to serve as supportive adjuncts to medical treatment, and do not provide medical care.

Harmony Hill's Cancer Program is supported in part by grants. The generosity of many individual donors is also vital to the support for this program.

Caring for the Caregiver
Monday, March 8, 2010, 10 am - 4 pm

Many cancer caregivers experience serious health conditions as a result of their nonstop caregiving responsibilities. This one-day workshop will address the challenges of caring for a loved one with cancer while maintaining your own health and well-being. Participants will receive support, empowerment and practical skills in a caring, nurturing environment. With an enhanced understanding of your particular challenges, and new knowledge of resources and tools, you will be able to provide better care for your loved one with cancer, yourself, and your family.

This is one of our "Thriving beyond Cancer" series of one-day programs offered in response to requests by those who have attended a Harmony Hill cancer program. It is open on a space-available basis to all those who are caregivers for those living with cancer.

Cancer Caregiver's Retreat
April 23-25, 2010, 11 am arrival on Friday; 4 pm departure on Sunday

We all know how all-encompassing a cancer diagnosis can be for the person with cancer, but it’s easy to underestimate the toll of caring for a loved one with cancer. This role often places extreme demands on the caregiver, who can become overwhelmed with feelings of helplessness, guilt, and frustration. Even recognizing the rewards of the experience, many caregivers still have their day-to-day responsibilities of work and family to deal with, and this can create both physical and emotional stress and symptoms.

This three-day retreat is a time of respite for caregivers to refresh body and spirit. Providing tools and resources for taking care of themselves as well as their loved ones, the weekend will be an opportunity for caretakers to put themselves first for a few days. It will offer them a break from their daily responsibilities, and focus on what they can do to help themselves stay healthy while they embrace the blessings of this sacred role.

This retreat is open to those who are caregivers for a loved one with cancer.
